This is how we Tech: Photography

Both of us have been photographers since we were children.
Therefore it is a cornerstone in our life.

iCloud photo sharing.

This is the biggie for us. This has been a real life changer for our family. We all love photography and we all want to share our point of view. We use our photo sharing all the time. When we travel we create a new photo sharing album, inviting all of the others to join, so that we each can post and view the other photos. That way we never have to worry about who took the shot with the thing at that one place. We all just take photos of our journey and share them. It’s been fun, and incredibly rewarding to share and enjoy everyone’s photos from our trips, where we each see things differently.
We create photo sharing albums for holidays and other special events as well. On Thanksgiving every year we create one that we post and share photos of things we are grateful for.

You can be actively involved with these photo sharing albums. Liking them, commenting on them, basically creating an instant interactive scrapbook.

There really is something incredibly special that has come from this way of doing things. this photo sharing albums. Modern Memory keeping.

This is also convenient when one of us wants to post or share a photo, we all have access to them on our own devices rather than having to go looking for them, etc.

I should also add that this includes photos taken from other cameras, besides just the iPhones. We can also access all of the library, the videos, the GoPro photos and videos. All of it. I heart that iCloud.

Our Library.

Since going digital in 2003 we have accumulated more than 100,000 photographs in our digital library. This is not all neatly organized as one would hope. we’re working on that. decluttering is something we are working on in all areas of our lives, we’ll get this area sooner than later.

Because of the quantity and for stability reasons, our library is housed on it's own drive and runs along side it’s own desktop iMac.  this helps it to stay more stable than usual and the higher powered processor helps to make sure that we are able to load it up, do edits and other things that we need to do to our photos and the library.

We put it all in one place so that the other computers do not have to house the data and do all of that work. Putting it all in one place also allows us to access the library at any time, any where through the iCloud accounts.

Our equipment.

It shouldn’t go without saying here that 75% or so of our daily life photography is taken on an iPhone of some sort. We all are at different stages in our phone cycles, so some of us have the latest and greatest quality cameras on our phones and some of us don’t. regardless, the best camera you have is the one that you have on your person. and most often, it's our phones

We use our dSLR Nikon d7000 for the rest of our photography. We have a few different lenses, including a telephoto zoom and a small portrait lens
We also have a Fujifilm X100s that is for pure pleasure and fun.
Other cameras include a small variety of handheld digitals that the kids have been given as they’ve grown, a couple of Fuji Instax cameras and an older Canon film camera body and lenses.

Our latest camera equipment is the GoPro Hero4 (Halle’s). This is our favorite at the moment and the one that we would use for most travel and adventure.
It has amazing quality and is the most versatile. We’ve loved using it underwater snorkeling, in our pool of all places, lake jumping, on roller coasters, in the car, taking video and then photos from video of almost every single adventure we've had since we got it.
There is a separate post for this is how we Go Pro because we think it is just so freaking special. We heart the GoPro.
